This performance intends to engage with particular
aspects of reality that exist almost entirely
in the mind. I mutate my sense of objects
and space by inventing collisions with ownership.
Ownership I have discovered has develops its
own sense of objectivity and I engage in observing
its limitations or point of departure
from being in control to beyond control, transforming
and infiltrating other objects, distorting
their meaning. Ownership in this context is
confined only by limitations of perception,
so that everything is possibly subject to
its conditions.
An aspect of this performance centers on the
accumulation and or alteration of sub-atomic
space. This process is similar to the way
in which our minds accumulate and compartmentalize
information, assimilating it into our understanding
of the world. In the realm of the abstract
however, there are restrictions to be worked
within or certain limitations of perception
that will only allow things to be broken down
so far before they become incomprehensible.
My practice seeks to engage in this tension
between thought and material through modalities
of representation, the translation of the
abstract into definable terms. Because ownership
primarily exists in the realm of thought,
it is non-material, but as a manifestation
it has very real implications within reality.
Unconfined by borders and controls, and because
it can be so closely aligned with language,
it can be said to evolve, and even control
our sense of identity, if language precedes
our sense of self, ownership becomes the force
that determines our subjectivity.
