Firstly
kit-set scarecrows were erected in a strait
line from Auckland to Wellington at points reasonably
accessible by road. This took us to places we
would probably never have visited but, through
being located
in a direct flight path between two cities,
are traveled over ceaselessly. Children of the
Whangamomona valley were invited to participate
by building scarecrows of their own. Secondly,
by flying south, and navigating by ordinance
survey maps, we located and photographed as
many as we could from the air. The images shown
here are a selection from the stills taken at
the time.
I wish to thank the following people for their
help with As Good a Land : Bob Keith, Jim and
Ben Allen, Maree Horner, Grey Nicol, Roger Peters
and Bruce Barber.
