The installation included a
4m diameter circle of red light bulbs, a chair
with tree branches attached by a bloody bandage,
and texts pinned to the studio walls. The catalogue
statement included an Aboriginal quote discussing
a song-making decision, juxtaposed to an Art Language
quote regarding the 'Private Language Argument'.
The wall text referenced acts of perception and
linguistic issues, (a variety of language systems)
including mathematical diagrams, graphs and three
dimensional grids.
The 'Trajectories', a complex
mix of projections could be thought of as predestination's
given the choices/commitment people make in
their lifetime. The installation/environment
projects no immediate sensibility except, perhaps
that which carries a reference to the Theatre
of the Absurd. A measure of unreality which
nevertheless offers some (ambiguous) references.
We are asked to side-step into a nether world
of indeterminacy and uncertainty. To slip through
a window and play games with a shifting focus
of prompt messages that don't necessarily make
a whole but can suggest possibilities and the
projection of unlikely relationships.
