This work is to do with night, water and whiteness.
The title 'white ankle, red shackle' refers
to a Bosch
painting. In the painting a King has a golden
shackle on his protruding leg. The peg and stocking
become the
metaphor but it also operates as a woman. It
is an androgynous figure.
Nylon thread - if you unwind the thread it is
revolting and difficult, but when bound up it
is like silver and
completely transformed. The thread has the same
lookas the line of the moon across water.
I often walk along Cheltenham beach and find
objects to use. The shell in this box still
has its translucency, it
has not yet been sun bleached.
